The other side of the canal


A Belgium walk from Vroenhoven (Riemst) to Veldwezelt (Lanaken) at the left side of the Albert canal. The terrain is higher, more agriculture, and sometimes it feels spooky, maybe because of the old Roman heir-road that is still intact at some places. Thousands of legionairs marched here some 2000 years ago. Not just that: at the Veldwezelt bridge British pilots lost their lives while trying to re-conquer  the bridge on the Germans. And for Belgium this 2nd world war started at the bridge in Vroenhoven where the first German troups entered their land… You Tube: the other side of the canal
